Meaningful collaboration with First Peoples is an important topic that Marinus Link will present at this week’s Gippsland New Energy Conference.
Presenters include Marinus Link First Peoples Engagement Advisor, Peter Hood, a Kurnai man with a deep connection to Gippsland.
“I’ll be sharing insights on how Marinus Link has prioritised meaningful collaboration with Traditional Owners across Gippsland,” Mr Hood said.
Marinus Link is an underground and undersea electricity and data cable that will further connect Tasmania and Victoria. It will enable electricity flow in both directions, delivering low-cost, reliable and clean energy for customers in the National Electricity Market.
At the conference, Mr Hood will share his experiences and the role of the Marinus Link First Peoples Advisory Group, which includes Traditional Owners from the Boonwurrung Land and Sea Council, Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation and Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation.
“It’s important that First Peoples take the opportunity to sit at the table and have a say in how Marinus Link can positively impact our economic and social development,” Mr Hood said.
“I’m looking forward to attending the Gippsland New Energy Conference and meeting others working in renewable energy projects in my local community.”
The Gippsland New Energy Conference is Australia’s largest region-led renewable energy event, with over 500 people expected to participate in person and online.
Marinus Link Chief Executive Caroline Wykamp, who will also be presenting at the conference, said the Marinus team is looking forward to connecting with partners and community throughout the event.
“We are very keen to continue to explore opportunities to collaborate and realise meaningful partnerships as part of our ongoing commitment to Gippsland’s future,” she said.
The conference has been organised by a local committee of renewable energy professionals, led by Darren McCubbin, Chief Executive Officer of the Gippsland Climate Change Network.
“We are grateful that Marinus Link is supporting this conference and sharing knowledge which will impact outcomes in policy, and build leadership in renewable energy in Gippsland,” Mr McCubbin said.
The conference will be livestreamed to people who have registered to attend online. Tickets to attend the conference virtually can be purchased at gnec.com.au.
